LFT announces a major, free teacher resource

Lesson plans, professional development credit and more offered to teachers

(November 29, 2017) A free Web portal with access to valuable teaching resources is now open to teachers in our state, Louisiana Federation of Teachers President Larry Carter announced today.

LFT Share My Lesson offers teachers over 400,000 free teaching materials, with more added every day,” said Carter. “Teachers can get professional development credits there, and also share their ideas with other teachers from around the country.”

LFT Share My Lesson was developed by the American Federation of Teachers after polling educators about their needs. After a free log-in, teachers can find and download materials, and search by grade level, subject area or topic. An upcoming addition will include search ability by state standards as well.

In addition to the individual lesson plans and units, LFT Share My Lesson has curated content collections based on events like Women’s History Month or themes like Classroom Management. The collection page is updated regularly.

The site not only offers materials to be used in the classroom. Teachers can earn professional learning credit through our on-demand webinars. Each one-hour session is worth one PD credit. And at the end of each webinar, a certificate of participation can be printed and submitted to administrators for approval.

Carter said the Web site also features resources for parents to help foster successful working relationships with teachers and to supplement learning at home.

Teachers can add their own materials to the site, and retain rights to their work through Creative Commons licensing.

The LFT Share My Lesson blog allows teachers to share their thoughts and opinions, and the current events resources feature breaks down top news stories into classroom lessons with aligned discussion questions.

“We are providing this resource absolutely free as part of our commitment to education and the professionals who dedicate their lives to teaching our children,” Carter said. “I urge all teachers, whether or not they are members of the Federation, to visit the LFT Web page at http://la.aft.org/ and register for the free benefits of LFT Share My Lesson.”
