Action Alert: We Need to Pass Senate Bill 35

On Wednesday morning, the Senate Education Committee will consider Senate Bill 35 by Senator Troy Carter. LFT worked with Senator Carter to develop this legislation to help protect teachers and students from circumstances beyond their control.

Ask the Senate Education Committee to VOTE YES on Senate Bill 35!

Last year, LFT was able to work with Senator Cleo Fields to ensure that VAM scores could not be used in teacher evaluations for the 2020-2021 school year. Senate Bill 35 would extend that common sense protection to all measures of student growth, including SLTs.

We have already asked teachers and school employees to bear an impossible burden this year. It's time to pass Senate Bill 35 to ensure that measures of student growth will not be used to evaluate teacher performance or teacher effectiveness.

Moving forward, LFT is committed to reexamining the evaluation model for students and educators. It's time to have an accountability system that is not a measure used to penalize teachers, but rather to provide them with accurate and timely feedback that can help our students reach their full potential.

Ask the Senate Education Committee to pass Senate Bill 35 to ensure that measures of student growth shall not be used in evaluating teachers after such an impossibly difficult year.
