(Baton Rouge – August 31, 2016) Teacher salaries are falling behind those of similar professions, according to a new study from the Economic Policy Institute which reveals that U.S. teachers’ weekly wages are 17 percent lower than comparable workers’.

We urge all of our leaders to remain focused on restoring Louisiana’s public school system, and to stand wary of any attempts by outsiders to take advantage of this crisis. Through the signing of an Executive Order Thursday, Governor John Bel Edwards established an advisory council on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) - the new, bipartisan law that recently reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
