LFT recognizes retiring union stalwart

Longtime United Teachers of New Orleans activist Wilson Boveland was recognized for his years of service at the Louisiana Federation of Teachers' annual Union Leadership Institute, which continues through Wednesday, July 1, at the Holiday Inn South in Baton Rouge.

LFT President Steve Monaghan, left, presented the award at the close of activities on Monday. Boveland, who is an attorney, worked in public education for 31 years and was on the UTNO staff for 18 years, where he served as a membership rights specialist and most recently as assistant to the president.
