Louisiana Federation of Teachers President Steve Monaghan explains how and why the Federation takes positions on issues in the Louisiana Legislature.
Who we are and where we stand
In this difficult legislative session, teachers and school employees deserve to know how and why the Louisiana Federation of Teachers takes stands in Baton Rouge.
We believe in tough, smart, clear-eyed leadership. We believe in doing the hard work it takes to research issues, form positions and build coalitions to make an impact in the legislature.
Our actions are guided by these principles:
- LFT always bases its positions on the best interest of teachers, school employees, and the children we serve.
- LFT will meet with any elected or appointed official, regardless of party affiliation, to present our arguments and to work on legislation that is in the best interest of public education.
- LFT will never exaggerate the potential harm — or benefit – of
proposed legislation. - LFT will respect friends and foes alike, and expects to be respected in return.
