The Oak Park Middle School librarian was selected from colleagues throughout the state for the honor, and is the first Calcasieu Parish winner.
The award was presented at the opening ceremony of the Louisiana Library Association’s annual conference in Baton Rouge on March 6.
LeMay, a 22-year veteran teacher, is a member of the Calcasieu Federation of Teachers and has been a School Library Media Specialist for nine years. She has a MA+30 from McNeese and a Master of Library and Information Science from LSU. She is a Project Recovery Laura Bush Foundation Scholar.
LeMay utilizes digital media, differentiated instruction, and inquiry-based learning to teach students information literacy skills. She models a love of reading books and is sponsor of a large, active library club at the school. Her parents, teachers, and students all celebrate with her because of her willingness to engage students and her belief that “there is no job too large or too small” for her assistance. She is very proud to be representing Calcasieu Parish School Libraries as well as Oak Park Middle School.
Her favorite adage, “HAPPY READING!” echoes throughout the halls of Oak Park Middle and the district.
