Teacher's Shield Act HB 283

President Larry Carter delivered testimony today urging the Senate Education Committee to support HB 283. This legislation ensures real protections for teachers and school employees facing assault or battery on the job.

Carter, underscored the importance of covering follow‑up medical, psychological, and rehabilitation needs, noting that too many employees return to work while still needing care.

He reminded the committee that unaddressed violence harms the entire school community: “It affects the classroom, the school climate, and the ability of every other student to receive uninterrupted instruction.”

HB 283 is a step toward safer schools and stronger support for the people who serve Louisiana’s children every day.

The author was asked to voluntarily defer the bill until next week for further discussions on amendments.

Special thanks to Representative Candace Newell for authoring this bill.
