Assistance in times of job interruption

In tough times, a variety of AFT + Member Benefits programs, through Union Plus, offer tools to help stretch your household budget and in some cases, offer direct financial aid. Members who have an AFT/Union Plus credit card, a Union Plus mortgage, or a personal loan may be eligible for increased financial benefits due to job loss or furlough. Members who have an AFT/Union Plus credit card may be eligible for a $300 job loss grant. In addition, there is a program hotline for members to check eligibility for other hardship payment benefits: 800-551-2873. If you have a Union Plus Mortgage, you may be eligible to apply for zero-interest loans that can cover your mortgage payment for up to six months, as well as a $1,000 one-time grant. Credit and Budget Counseling

As a Union member you can get a FREE consumer credit counseling session, budget analysis and money management advice to get back on the road to financial recovery. Your free session includes: a complete financial review, including budget analysis and credit management counseling; assistance in budgeting or advice on sources of additional income; advice on how to work with creditors; an action plan that summarizes your financial situation, provides a budget and timeline for reaching your debt management and repayment goals, and restates action items; referral to a social service organization in your area, if appropriate; and referral to union plus Legal Service or Union Plus Mortgage Assistance program, if appropriate.
