After years of attacks on our teachers and our schools, the Louisiana Federation of Teachers brought the fight to reclaim the promise of public education to the Louisiana Legislature.

Student privacy protection will cost $1 million

BESE plans to spend about $1 million to implement a law aimed at protecting the personal information of Louisiana school students.

(Baton Rouge – June 18, 2014) Sticking to a vow he’s made for weeks. Gov. Bobby Jindal today announced that he has signed an executive order withdrawing Louisiana from the test consortium associated with Common Core State Standards. The governor said that his action also removes Louisiana from participation in the Common Core standards.

(Baton Rouge – June 12, 2014) A large majority of teachers responding to a statewide survey say their schools don’t have the technology required for the online tests that are coming with the Common Core State Standards. They also say their students lack the computer skills necessary to succeed on the tests.

(Baton Rouge – May 30, 2014) A bill that improves the state law governing the discipline and dismissal of teachers was passed by the Senate Thursday, and awaits concurrence by the House of Representatives
